Apple is really expanding their iTunes Store. From the announcement of movies and TV shows available to this. According to my apparent source for just about every post, the new service may be coming this fall and it will cost you $2.99 for a 30 day rental. I’m not terribly fond of the way the iTunes Store works in the first place, especially when it comes to purchasing music. Even when I use a pretty fast cable connection, it still takes on average 30 minutes or more for a 40MB music video. Apparently, rumors began about this a year ago.
This could be okay for Apple TV users who can watch the movies on their television sets, but I don’t think it’ll be something I’ll be getting into. After all, the local movie rental / convenience store is down the road and movies are $2.50 there. Sure I can only watch them for a night before I have to bring them back, but they are on DVD, I don’t have to download them and the TV experience (without Apple TV) just feels better. I’ll stick with my local movie rental store. They have popcorn, something the iTunes Store doesn’t sell. What do you think?
